This is the mid 2016 crop and just came into the US in 8/2016. The Kenya Nyeri Ichamama AB coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the Ichamama Mill in Kenya. The Ichamama Factory processes coffee from 1,100 farmers (300 of whom are women) who generally have half acre plots averaging 250 coffee trees. Farmers are members of the Othaya Farming Cooperative Society.
I'm roasting it maybe 20 seconds past 1st cracks on a drum roaster. 402 degrees bean temp. You get a sweet grapefruit, like a candy graperfruit -- not the bitter or sour grapefruit flavor that can seem odd in many classic Kenya coffees. Underneath that, it has a few other juicy flavors (apple? apricot?) and a great sparkling acidity on your tongue. It finishes sweet and clean. We've been joking about the name of the mill, and loudly exclaiming, "EE-CHEE-MAMA!!!!" everytime we take a sip of this wowzer of a coffee. Kenya is a favorite around here, and this one does not disappoint.
