This is another washed coffee from West Java. This one is a co-op coffee consisting of about 450 small farms around Parahyangan where the coffee is milled.
This is a fully washed coffee which makes it taste much cleaner than most Indonesian beans. Most Indonesian coffees are wet-hulled (semi-washed), which is what tends to make them taste so earthy. It has been sorted nicely to a Grade 1 classification.
In a medium roast, it's nice with hints of tomato, coconut, herbs, and spices. Take it just a few seconds into 2nd cracks to get chocolate and spice notes. The darker roasts than this are smoky and charcoal which isn't inherently a bad thing. It does hold up to this level if you're looking for a roasty coffee with a little spice and chocolate notes.
I have found most coffee grown in Java to be mass produced on government owned estates, which does control the quality and production, but often results in boring and simple coffees. But this one being a microlot is quite enjoyable and flavorful. I highly recommend it if you enjoy medium roasted coffee.
