This fresh coffee comes from the legendary Guji region, a small area that used to be part of Sidamo but now is classified separately. There are few entrances to Guji--a distant and heavily forested region--and none of the routes are short or for the queasy. It used to be a full day's drive to get coffee to a washing station to be processed, and as a result, most coffee farmers here had limited control over the quality and prices for their coffee. The recently built Shakiso Washing Station now allows them to process the coffee in Guji, and the resulting quality and prices for their coffee immediately improved. This lot is the dry processed (natural) (sun-dried) beans which make them extra fruity and sweet. As with any good Ethiopia, the fruity taste is unmistakable-- primarily lemon candy, with an almost tea-like aroma and sweetness. A fantastic hot coffee, but just as nice when iced.
