Burundi Long Miles Peaberry

Burundi Long Miles Peaberry

Burundi is a landlocked country in Africa, about the size of Maryland.  They are recovering from a civil war from 1993-2006 where 300,000 people died and no coffee was exported.  Now just a decade later, issues of corruption, ethnic inequality, poverty, and unemployment are threatening to start civil war again.

The Long Miles project started as basically one family with a farm and a network of nearby farmers, who are the cutting edge in Burundi coffee right now and has grown into a great story of empowerment and sustainability. The knowledge, experience, and care they possess is impressive. And they are located in the area with the highest altitude and best climate for growing coffee in the whole country.

Try out this washed Burundi bean and see what you think!  You can roast it 30-40 seconds past 1st cracks for a very bright, fruity, juicy option, including some tomato and lime dominating the flavor.  I like it more at a medium roast, just shy of 2nd cracks, where it is still bright and juicy, but more of a caramelized sugar and grapefruit note and not as acidic, but still  tons of citrus.

Being a peaberry, it roasts evenly, as the roly-poly beans just bounce around.

March 2026 arrival in USA.
