Sometimes this tea is called by the name of the particular cultivar (Ti Kwan Yin), and although it is grown all over the Fujian Province in China, the best lots like this one come from within the Anxi region.
There are "light" and "dark" oolongs, and Iron Goddess of Mercy is on the lighter end. It is a sweet, complex tea with notes of pineapple, flowers, paypaya, and honey. Often we use lower grades to blend with for our flavored oolong, but this batch of it is so lovely we have to sell it pure.
The story is that the tea was first grown behind a temple dedicated to Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy.
The tea comes in a biodegradable branded package and is bundled with a 10 ounce pink Happy Mug mug by NotNeutral featuring a design that matches the tea packaging.
Tasting Notes: Sweet and Floral, Tropical Fruits, Juicy
Steep: It's excellent with any steeping method. We use 2 tsp of tea for 8oz water. Water temperature: 185. Steep time 3 minutes. The tea leaves are good for 3 or 4 steepings -- when your mug is empty, reuse the tea leaves to brew some more! Sweetener: Not recommended
Approximately 6 tsp in a 1/2 ounce package.
