This rare black tea is from the Fujian province of China. It consists of only buds, plucked only during a two week period of early spring, and only from the Wuyi mountain which has a sandy soil, giving the tea buds a distinct taste that nowhere else matches. The full buds are then carefully roasted and folded like an oolong, a labor-intensive processing that makes this tea even more rare and special.
I have long-kept a small stash of this tea for myself, but not offered it for sale because of the pricepoint. I think we have enough customers now who will understand and be fascinated by this tea. It has a light honey sweetness (because of only being buds) and a strong floral aroma, with a slightly malty undertone. The tea is incredibly complex in flavor and remarkably smooth with a soft but creamy mouthfeel.
Adding honey or other sweetener is completely unnecessary. It tastes like it already has honey in it. This is a tea to share with special guests and special days.
The tea comes in a biodegradable branded package and is bundled with a 10 ounce pale green Happy Mug mug by NotNeutral featuring a design that matches the tea packaging.
