Normally this time of year we have so many Ethiopia coffees that we argue over which ones to roast and which ones to save for later. So where are all the Ethiopia coffees?
They are still coming. A military faction in Amhara (where some of our coffee grows!) attempted a coup to take over the Ethiopia government in June. It failed. But there were several casualties on both the government's side and those involved in the attempted takeover. In the aftermath, the government shut down all internet, text messaging, and other communication. It shut down flights and shipping ports in and out of the country.
Ethiopia has re-opened for business, but as you can imagine, all attempts by importers and exporters to communicate and conduct business have been greatly delayed. We are now being told to not expect most Ethiopia coffees to arrive in the USA until mid to late August.
