The Aceh region is from the northern part of the island near Lake Toba and is much scarcer than the prevalent Mandheling. This Sumatra is grown by the indiginous Batak people, and then the peaberries are sorted out and sold separately. "Raja" means "King" and indeed, this bean deserves the title as king of coffee. It has a smooth, full bodied, dark sweet cedar flavor with hints of tobacco and smoke. Satisfying and lingering aftertaste that keeps you going back for another mug. It's not nearly as "earthy" or "foresty" as classic Sumatra. Instead, the aftertaste is of cedar and tobacco.
It's quite a flavorful mug of coffee, and is particularly fun because of the roly-poly peaberry beans.
