Ecuador grows coffee at tremendously high altitudes in the Andes Mountains, but they only produce 1/20th of a percent of the world's coffee! One of their main exports is flowers. Their roses in particular are considered the nicest in the world.
Of the very small amount of coffee that leaves Ecuador, we only purchase and roast the best of what is available. A lot of our Ecuador comes from the Pichincha region in the North, but this one came from the Southern Amazon bordering Peru known as the Zamora coffee region. The farmer, Felipe Luzon, is one of the region's pioneering coffee growers and introduced this new varietal, none as Nestle Hybrid, which was developed by Nestle a few years ago to provide a high yielding, disease resistant coffee. We were skeptical, but it's our favorite Ecuador this year. Grown at an altitude of 5500 feet, this crop showcases Ecuador coffee at its finest with a clean and complex flavor profile we think is just fantastic!
