A microlot is a small percentage of a crop, sorted out of as being the very best quality of the entire harvest. In this case, just a few hundred pounds of a rare varietal called Parainema was sundried and sold for a premium by El Jardin ("The Garden) Estate. Parainema coffee is a really long slender bean with floral, creamy, citrus notes, and it seems to only grow well in Honduras. It's not well known, but it's fairly disease resistant and reasonably easy to grow, and it is starting to gain traction among farmers there. The taste profile is quite distinct, characterized by strong floral flavor and really creamy mouthfeel that is almost like a geisha.
We like it quite a bit -- it has all the markings of a special coffee, and is particularly complex considering that it is a Honduran export, and the long slender beans are cool to see.
